A calendar is not a policy schedule

Two policies can display the same calendar date while referring to different times or arrangements. Our planner accepts dates to organise questions; it does not accept exact policy times, read schedules or check the insurer's records. A tidy sequence on screen cannot establish continuity.

Copy the current end date and intended new start date only if you know them. In your own documents, find the precise time, the relevant vehicle and driver details, and any conditions attached to the arrangement. Ask each provider about anything unclear.

MOT, policy end and proposed start are separate records; confirm exact policy times.

How the planner handles different dates

If an entered start is later than an entered end, the planner says so and asks you to confirm the exact arrangements. It does not announce an uninsured gap. If the start is earlier, it raises a question rather than deciding that duplicate cover exists. If both dates match, it still asks about exact times.

For example, an old end date of 12 November and a proposed start of 13 November are prompts to examine the documents. They do not tell this tool the actual end time, what has been agreed, whether either policy has taken effect, or what a journey would require.

Check changes as well as dates

A vehicle change, amended named drivers or different use can make a timing question more than a calendar exercise. Confirm which car and use the provider is referring to. Do not assume that confirmation for a previous car applies to its replacement.

Likewise, a quotation, payment receipt or completed checklist does not itself supply the missing confirmation. Retain the provider's written confirmation and policy documents privately. The planner neither reads nor stores them.

Questions to take to the providers

  • What is the exact date and time this arrangement ends or starts?
  • Which vehicle, drivers and use are being confirmed?
  • What action remains for me to take, if any?
  • How will I receive confirmation, and where are the relevant terms?
  • If my handover time changes, what do I need to tell you?

Ask before making a cancellation or driving decision. Our task list can remind you to have that conversation; it cannot answer it on behalf of an insurer.

The reminder interval in the planner is your own choice of calendar days. It is not a legal deadline, a recommended quotation window or an instruction to cancel at a particular point.
